Spatial Data in SQL Server 2008

(released 27/11/2009)

The December meeting of the Newcastle Coders Group is coming up fast!  This month, Andrew Coates returns to talk to us about programming against Spatial Data in SQL Server 2008.  This meeting also marks 4 years of coders group meetings.

Date: 6.00pm Wednesday 2nd December 2009
Location: Forsythes IT Training Room – 9 Denison Street, Newcastle West
Cost: FREE!

With the introduction of spatial data types in SQL 2008 and the commoditisation of spatial data through services such as Bing Maps and others, spatial programming has gone mainstream. Come along to this demo-heavy session to explore the potential that your data already contains. As Andrew says, "every application wants to be a database application when it grows up, and every database application wants to be a spatial database application when it grows up".

Andrew Coates has been a Developer Evangelist for Microsoft in Australia since January 2004. Before joining Microsoft, Andrew was an independent consultant specialising in database applications using Microsoft technologies including SQL Server, Visual FoxPro and Microsoft Office.  Andrew's wide range of experience includes telecommunications, SMB inventory, dispatch and accounting systems, using both web and rich client front ends. Andrew has spoken at international conferences on Geographical Information Systems, health statistics and database maintenance and is a regular presenter at TechEd both locally and internationally.

Newcastle based technology company CIBIS International have generously offered to support the NCG this month by providing food and drink.

So, please RSVP if you plan to attend so that we can plan for numbers.
