Test Driven Development

(released 1/02/2010)

It's the first month back for the Newcastle Coders Group in 2010.

We're looking forward to a new year, bringing even more great presenters on all sorts of programming topics to the Newcastle region. This month we're very pleased to be able to present Richard Hundhausen, who is currently visiting Australia presenting training sessions on Scrum.  The topic for his presentation this Wednesday will be Test Driven Development.  This is an opportunity to hear a world class speaker and I hope to see you there.

Date: 6.00pm Wednesday 3rd February 2010
Location: Forsythes IT Training Room – 9 Denison Street, Newcastle West
Cost: FREE!

Test Driven Development (TDD), also frequently referred to as Test Driven Design, is a development methodology where developers create software by first writing a unit test, then writing the actual system code to make the unit test pass. The unit test can be viewed as a small specification around how the system should behave. Microsoft has worked hard to reduce the friction for doing TDD in Visual Studio 2010. In this presentation, you will see how to reduce the number of keystrokes to write your test, generate your code, and refactor.

Richard Hundhausen is the president of Accentient, a company that specializes in Application Lifecycle Management using Visual Studio Team System. He has over 25 years of software and database development experience and 20 years of training and presentation experience.
Richard is a Microsoft Regional Director, Visual Studio Team System MVP, and author of Working with Visual Studio Team System (Microsoft Press).

For those of you who haven't been before, the Newcastle Coders Group is a great place to learn about the latest technologies in software development.  It's also a great place to meet your peers in the local area. Everyone is welcome, so bring your friends and colleagues.

If you plan to come along, please RSVP so that we can plan for numbers and indicate if you want to chip in for the pizza.

It should be a fantastic night!  I hope to see you there.
